THE HOUSE OF HUNDRED HORIZONS

Architecture & Interiors

AL’Ula - KSA

Area - m²

A dwelling conceived as a place from which one can see, without being seen. It mediates between the intimacy of a private home and the openness of an outdoor museum, whose sole exhibit is the natural wonder of AlUla. Set between two mountain ranges and on the edge of a lush wadi, the house is designed as a sanctuary of contemplation. Its silhouette is ephemeral—an apparition shifting with the play of light and shadow—resonating with AlUla’s unique spirit of place.

The traditional courtyard typology is reinterpreted into a linear sequence of spaces, creating different degrees of enclosure, privacy, and transition.

From east to west, the dwelling frames exceptional views: the immemorial past of the Lion Tombs, and the future renaissance embodied by the Kingdom Institute.

At its heart runs an abstracted wadi—a thread of space linking the public, semi-public, and private zones. By day it provides shaded gathering areas, by night it transforms into a promenade for residents and children. It culminates in a Garden of Contemplation, a secluded realm for reflection and serenity.

The material palette is drawn from the site itself.

Local craft and advanced construction techniques combine to form a layered façade that is both protective and porous, filtering light while ensuring privacy.

The horizontal brick courses reinterpret the surrounding geology, echoing the erosion of stone by time. Warm reds, soft greens, rich yellows and subtle purples mirror the ever-changing colors of AlUla.

More than a house, it is a place for co-living—a home for researchers and guests drawn to the Kingdom Institute. Here, private apartments sit alongside shared spaces such as a library, lounge, and outdoor majlis.

Designed to host a global community of scholars, the dwelling fosters encounters and the exchange of knowledge, while also giving back to the wider community.

The House of Hidden Horizons redefines luxury not as excess, but as immersion:
The luxury of knowledge, the luxury of a view, the luxury of contemplation.
